Dong-A Pharmaceutical traces its history to 1932, when it began as a pharmaceutical wholesaler in Seoul. In Korea it is best known for Bacchus, the energy tonic it launched in 1961.

Its skincare range is made up of over-the-counter medicines, each built around a named active ingredient: Noscarna for scars, Acnon and Aclean for breakouts, and Melatoning for pigmentation. Acnon became Korea's top selling topical acne treatment within two years of its 2020 launch, and Melatoning held 73% of the country's hydroquinone segment in 2025 (IQVIA).

A simple routine. Cleanse, then apply only to the affected area. Use Acnon on red, inflamed pimples and Aclean on whiteheads and blackheads, starting Aclean once a day if your skin feels dry. Use Noscarna on scars once the wound has closed, massaging it in several times a day. Apply Melatoning to dark spots at bedtime and wear sunscreen during the day.

Frequently asked questions

What are the active ingredients in Noscarna gel?

Each gram contains heparin sodium 500 IU, allantoin 50 mg and dexpanthenol 100 mg. In Korea it is approved for acne scars, surgical scars and raised (hypertrophic and keloid) scars. Use it once a wound has closed, not on open skin.

What is the difference between Acnon and Aclean?

Acnon Cream combines ibuprofen piconol, an anti-inflammatory, with isopropylmethylphenol, an antibacterial, for red and inflamed pimples. Aclean Gel uses 2% salicylic acid with tea tree oil for non-inflamed acne such as whiteheads and blackheads.

How should I use Melatoning cream?

Melatoning contains 2% hydroquinone. Dong-A recommends a 24 hour patch test on the inner arm first, then applying it only to dark spots at bedtime and wearing sunscreen during the day. If there is no improvement after two months, stop and speak to a pharmacist.
