Wondering how the Korean girls maintain their glassy glowing, smooth and baby soft skin? The secret rests on their skincare regimes and the skincare products that they use. Korean skincare brands are becoming an important force of the global skincare market. They are popular in Asia and have become the mainstream in the US and Europe too.
LMCHING Grouphas been a global distributor of K-Beauty and K-Skincare products for years. We highly recommend them to women of all ages and nationalities. There are several merits that make the Korean skincare products stand out.
Many Korean skincare products use natural ingredients that are not found in the western counterparts. In the East Asian traditional medical culture, many natural ingredients have positive health effects. Ingredients like pearl powder, ginseng, bee venom and licorices are well known for their health benefits in traditional Chinese medicine and are popular ingredients in Korean skincare products. Many other ingredients are mostly bio-based such as snail mucin, fermented rice water and various plant extracts. Therefore, the K-skincare products are usually milder, gentler and more nourishing than the Western products.
Contemporary Koreans place personal attractiveness as an important asset. This creates strong demand for beauty and skincare products. In order to meet the consumer needs, Korean skincare manufacturers are very innovative. Many products like bb cream, snail slime, face essence, face scrub and mask sheetare also inventions of Korean skincare brands. Those products handle different skincare aspects and when used in combination, they enhance the effectiveness of the skincare routines.
The Korean skincare brands and K-idols make “skincare routine” a popular concept in the world. Many may wonder how the K-idol can build such a smooth, baby soft, glass doll skin that is admired by anyone. The answer is the skincare regime; the steps and the combination of skincare products used. It is not a marketing gimmick to drive sales but is standing out as a set of practical knowledge on preserving healthy skin.
The most well known Korean skincare regime is the 10 step routine. However, many girls may not expect to have their skin like a K-idol but only want to keep the skin clean and healthy. A simple 3 step or 5 step routine would be plenty enough.
The Koreans have been developing their products with the multi-steps skincare regime in their mind. Any girl can set up a routine that fits her skin type and skin concerns by choosing among the different Korean beauty brands in various combinations without compatibility issues.
‘’Beauty and skincare are for everybody’’. Embracing this philosophy, many Korean skincare products are sold at very affordable prices as compared to the Western counterparts.
A skincare routine comprises various steps to take care of the skin daily. In order to keep your skin looking great and healthy, every girl should build her own skincare regime that fits her skin type while maintaining her skin’s health and treating her skin concerns. A skincare routine can be very simple or extremely complex. However, a basic 3 step or 5 step regime should be enough for most people.
This most basic routine consists of 3 steps: cleansing, toning, and moisturising. The reasoning is straightforward. The facial skin secrete oil, contacts with dusts, dirts and pollutants. Cleansing removes the dirt and toxic substances on the skin epidermis. After the cleansing step, toning is a step to refresh the skin, balance up the skin’s PH value, and enhance the skin to absorb nutrients and moisture. Moisturising is to rehydrate the epidermis as it would have dried up during cleansing.
Cleansing Tissue
The face cleansing step can be subdivided into 2 steps. Using oil based cleanser to clean up facial oil, oil soluble dirt and make-up. The Cleansing Tissue products in our Face Wash sub-collection can provide the most cleaning effect.
Cleansing Foam / Cleansing Gel / Cleansing Powder / Cleansing Stick
After removing the oil soluble dirt, a water based cleanser should be applied to clear the skin throughout. You can choose from our long list of cleansing foam, cleansing gel, cleansing powder and cleansing stick. Each of them can provide deep cleansing for your skin and additional benefits for your skin.
Face Peeling / Face Scrub
In order to remove dead skin cells that may clog pores and create acne and blackheads, face scrub or face peeling gel can be used after the first two cleansing steps. We have many face peeling products and face scrubs that are very effective. However as a friendly reminder, face exfoliation can make the epidermis thinner if used excessively. That would weaken the natural protective barrier of the top skin layer. Therefore, face scrubs or face peeling products should only be used a few days apart or weekly.
Toner & Face Pad
In the 3 Step routine, Face toning is the step after face cleansing. After cleansing and exfoliation, the skin would become dry and its PH balance is affected. Toner can protect the natural moisture of the skin, return its PH balance and prepare the skin for absorbing nutrients and moistures. Skin toner is the main character in this step. In our Face Care sub-collection, our Toner and Pad product line have more than a hundred toners with various ingredients that are suitable for any skin types and skin conditions.
Face Cream / Face Lotion / Face Gel / Face Mist
The final step of the skincare routine is to rehydrate the skin. We have a broad range of face creams, face lotions, face gels or face mists that are very effective moisturisers, they help to prevent any further water loss after the cleansing process. They also contain natural ingredients that rejuvenate the skin cells, add in moisture and pull water from the deeper skin layers to the epidermis to rehydrate the skin. Browse our Face Care sub-collection for the Face Cream & Lotion, Face Gel and Face Mist product line for the face moisturising products that fit you.
The 3 step skincare is the starting point for a girl to build up a skincare regime that suits her unique needs. The basic idea of the 3 step routine is to clean using cleanser, to get back or rebalance the skin using toner, then to rehydrate the skin using moisturiser. However, this routine only offers the basics, it is silent on the enhancement of skin condition and the treatment of various skin concerns.
There are many more advanced routines that are composed of more steps that have their own supporters. However, the Korean 10 step routine is believed to be the Korean standard that produces healthy, baby soft, glass glowing skin of K-idols.
The 10 step routine is actually the divide and expansion of the 3 step regime with more specific items in order to enrich the effectiveness of the skincare process. The basic 10 steps are as follows:
1) Oil based cleanser should be used first to remove sebum, oil soluble dirt and makeup on your face. Our cleansing tissue products are ideal for this purpose.
2) Water based cleanser such as cleansing foam is used to clean the face thoroughly, washing away dust, sweat and any water soluble impurities. Our cleansing foam, cleansing gel are all effective water based cleansers.
3) An exfoliant or scrub is used to remove dead skin cells of the skin surface, this step is to prevent clogged pores and acne. However, as an important rule, exfoliation should not be overdone. Conduct once a week should be plenty enough. You can find exfoliants, scrubs and face peeling products in our Face Wash sub-collection.
4) Toner is used to re-balance the PH value of the skin surface into slightly acidic and also prepare it to absorb nutrients more efficiently in the following skincare steps.
5) Essence is used to add active beneficial ingredients and nutrients to hydrate, vitalise and brighten up the skin. This step is to promote the general health condition of the skin.
6) Ampoule and Serum are used to treat various skin concerns such as wrinkles, face pigment, skin irritation, ageing skin or acne.
7) Sheet Mask with active ingredients is used once or twice a week to reinforce the treatment or improvement of specific skin issues such as soothing of sensitive skin, skin whitening, adding moisture and collagen to the skin. Do not over use them that would get harms, not benefits. Sheet masks are effective to tackle specific skin issues and you can visit our Face Mask collection for the products that meet your needs.
8) Eye Cream and eye patch keep the skin around the eyes firm and healthy, also help reduce the under eye dark circle.
9) Face moisturisers like face cream, face lotion are used to keep the skin hydrated and ensure all the active ingredients in the previous steps are locked and absorbed thoroughly into the skin.
10) Sunscreen effectively protects the skin from sunlight should be applied. Besides the dust, environmental pollutants and antioxidants, strong sunlight can harm the skin, accelerate skin ageing and trigger skin irritation.
Whether you adopt 3 steps, 5 steps, 7 steps or more, keep the right order of applying skincare products to optimise the best results.
The right orders are:
1) Cleaning up the skin thoroughly (related products are face cleanser, scrub, exfoliant)
2) Toning and rebalance the skin (related products are various face toners)
3) Vitalising the skin and Treating of skin concerns (related products are essences, ampoules, serums, sheet masks, eye creams)
4) Moisturising the skin to lock up the beneficial ingredients inside the skin (related products are face creams, face lotions)
Knowing yourself is always a merit. Your skin type would determine how you react to the ingredients of different products. The four basic skin types are dry, oily, normal and combination (some parts of the face are oily and some are normal or dry). Many people can easily learn their skin type, or otherwise you should consult your family doctors. Knowing one’s skin type can improve your chance to pick the right product and avoid the wrong one. This knowledge also helps you to anticipate the potential skin issues and prepare the skin by reducing the intensity or stop their occurrence with the right products in your skincare routine.
If you are a beginner or never set up a skincare routine before, starting small is always a sensible approach. Try the basic 3 step routine first, pick an oil based cleanser and a water cleansing foam or gel, a toner and a face cream. Test and evaluate the result. You may need to try different products from different brands before you can settle on the combination that suits you well.
